The Flight Home

Started off with the journey to the airport in Des Moines, IA (DSM). We drove through a fierce snowstorm, skidding and swerving a little, barely avoiding being hit by massive trucks hurtling by (sliding on the snow too I guess). What was supposed to be a 50-minute drive ended up taking 2 hours. In any case, we arrived safely at the airport. We parked along the curbside (there was no one there; for some reason people don’t flock to the airport during a snowstorm) and unloaded, then went in.

We talked for some time, checked with the people about the check-in time, etc. After a few minutes, we saw a police SUV drive up by our cars outside. “Oh ok, time to move the cars,” we thought. But no. The bitchass police officer had Already written the ticket when she pulled over. What happened to courtesy/stern/ warnings in general? She said “Well you should’ve seen the signs.” Yes, there were a bunch of signs that clearly said “No Parking, No Waiting” etc. but come on, woman! There wasn’t ANY other car in sight, and not that we abandoned the cars there, we were right inside looking at them, so if anyone came by we could move them right away.. Anyway she slapped our cars with $20 fines each. Bad karma, I tell you.

I flew with Northwest Airlines this year. The flying itself was pretty long and uneventful becuase of the long waits in between flights. Though I suppose this was a necessary evil if you wanted to ensure you made your transfers on time. The flight from Minneapolis (MSP) to Tokyo (NAA) was rather annoying because we were traversing time zones, and the sky was bright all the way back. I like night alot, so when the daylight didn’t seem to go away I was pretty perturbed. Anyway things got better because the flight from Tokyo (NAA) to Singapore (SIN) was dark all the way, so I was happy and awake and watched 3 movies in a row.

I watched Little Miss Sunshine (damn damn damn damn Good show, go watch it now), The Women (erm I have a thing for Annette Bening), and rewatched Hercules, the cartoon. All great in their own way. Little Miss Sunshine caught me super off-guard with its simple story but superbly acted colorful characters. The Women was overflowing with estrogen, and at times my mouth was just open watching the girls being so damn girly aghh. Beh tahan. But good movie la haha. And Hercules, the most “American” disney cartoon movie, I think. It had Hollywood, New York, and most importantly, James Woods. Lol Hades is my favorite Disney bad guy ever.

Food was ok.. the usual uninspiring grub. They fed and watered us constantly, so I’m not complaning, though I prefer Korean and Japan Airlines.

Anyway I’m glad I didn’t miss any flights, got my luggage back safely, and have but a mild case of jetlag. Let’s see what adventures await here at home.
